Museum at Black Hawk State Park

We should all remember this. Some of us used to go to the Lodge for After Dance Dinner with our dates. The kitchen is closed but you can rent the facility and cater in food and beverages for special parties.

Prospect Park as we knew it long ago

In the beginning of this section are a couple of photos of Prospect Park as it is now, after much needed restoration.

Denkman Memorial Library at Augustana College

"New" library at Augustana on Augustana Boulevard,Rock Island. It isn't so new now, however.

Bathing Beach, Campbell's Island

This is a ways before my time. How about you?

Fort Armstrong Battery

The old fort is still guarding the Rock Island Arsenal from attacks by Blackhawk Indians, British Red Coats and French legions.

The Bridge, Dam and Locks

The Bridge "Government Bridge" spans the Mississippi between Davenport and Rock Island. The roller dam Holds the river back and provided deep water over the once "rapids" along the Illinois and Iowa shores to provide barge traffic to the north. The locks made it possible to transfer barges from one "river elevation" to another. There has talk in the past several years about lengthening the locks to accomodate Longer bardges. This system remains an important part of the Quad Cities economy.
